Gastronaut Review - Grass Roots
This week, we’re taking a quick trip to outer space with Gastronaut, a 60/40 sativa-dominant hybrid that blasts off from a cross between Motorbreath #15 and Zero Gravity. Picked up from Grass Roots Downtown, this strain came in a clean white mylar bag with a QR code on the back for lab results and details — a small but appreciated touch of transparency.
Appearance & StructureEven though this was a 1-gram sample, the presentation held up. The buds were small, crisp, and well-trimmed, breaking down easily by hand. Their bright green color and orange pistils gave off an inviting look, paired with a solid 7/10 level of frostiness. For such small nugs, they definitely didn’t lack personality.
Aroma & Flavor
Opening the bag brought a hit of fresh pine and sweet gas, giving the impression of a fresh harvest. When broken down, the scent grew slightly more intense, with the same pine-gas combo holding strong. The aroma likely comes from a blend of terpenes like limonene, pinene, and myrcene, known for citrus brightness, woodsy sharpness, and smooth underlying depth.
Flavor-wise, Gastronaut leans heavier into that gas profile — classic OG energy with a sweet note that rounds things out nicely. It’s got that nostalgic old-school flavor many smokers will appreciate. While not the smoothest strain out there, it burned clean and evenly, leaving only light resin behind — a sign of solid curing that maybe could’ve used just a little more time.
Effects & Experience
The high hit immediately. It started behind the eyes before flowing through the body, creating a balanced wave of relaxation and alertness. There’s a mental lift that makes it great for gaming or conversation, but enough body calm to keep things mellow. The high stuck around for about an hour and a half, making it versatile enough for any time of day — a true anytime smoke.
Value & Final Thoughts
At $12 a gram, Gastronaut sits a touch above the average price point, but it delivers a clean, consistent high with a flavor profile that feels both familiar and refined. It’s not the most groundbreaking strain on the market, but it does everything it sets out to do — and it does it well.
Scores:
Appearance 8.3 — Aroma 8.8 — Flavor 8.0 — Smoothness 7.8 — Effects 9.0 — Value 8.0
Overall, Gastronaut is a smooth ride for anyone who enjoys classic gas-leaning flower with balanced effects that won’t knock you out or spin you up too much. A solid pickup from Grass Roots Downtown, and definitely worth checking out if you want a strain that performs as well as it looks.
